  • How is lead paint harmful to the occupants?
Lead inside paint and other surface coatings can be harmful when disturbed, impacted by renovation/repair or when deteriorating (peeling, chipping, chalking, cracking, or damaged paint). Adults and children can get lead into their bodies by breathing in lead dust (especially during activities such as renovations, repairs, or painting that disturb painted surfaces). Lead is a heavy particulate that does not stay airborne for very long. As a result, it will settle on various objects and surfaces within the home. Occupants, especially children, can come in contact with the settled lead dust causing it to transfer to clothing, hands, feet, toys, etc. This can then be transferred to the mouth and ingested into the body.
  • Where do you find it?
Homes built prior to 1978 still containing the original paint and surface coatings. Often times walls are painted over multiple times, however, the trim around windows, baseboards, and doors sometimes have fewer layers of paint covering the original surface coating and are more easily disturbed.
  • Who is most susceptible to lead and what kind of damage can it cause?
Lead is very hazardous to children. It damages the brain and central nervous system; it can cause decreased intelligence, reading, learning difficulties, and behavior problems. The damage can irreversible and effect children throughout there lives. Lead is also hazardous to pregnant women causing damage to the fetus. Lead can also be hazardous to adults by causing high blood pressure, loss of sex drive and/or capability, and physical fatigue.

To ensure you are not exposing yourself or loved ones to asbestos, it is crucial to have your home or office inspected prior to any renovation or demolition projects.

  • How often should you clean your dryer vent?
Most dryers and vent systems require cleaning every one to three years in order to maintain optimum efficiency and the highest level of safety. How often your dryer vents need cleaning also depends on the volume of laundry you dry weekly and the total length of your dryer vent system.
  • Why is it essential to clean your dryer vent?
Keeping your dryer vent clean is crucial for several reasons, including safety, efficiency, and the longevity of your appliance. Over time, lint and debris can accumulate in your dryer vent, creating a significant fire hazard. In fact, thousands of house fires are attributed to clogged dryer vents each year. Additionally, a clogged dryer vent forces your machine to work harder and longer, which not only increases energy consumption but also puts unnecessary strain on your appliance, leading to costly repairs or early replacements. Regular dryer vent cleaning can save you money, prevent fires, and extend the lifespan of your dryer.
